The Breath Effect began in Glenorchy, New Zealand, which not surprisingly is where you’ll find some of the purest air on the planet. At home in the clear mountain air, The Breath Effect founder Emma Ferris was struck by the notion that while everybody breathes, not everybody breathes well. We are not given the tools through life to deal with lifes big stressful moments. After a big exhale, Emma decided she’d like to teach the world to breathe and embrace stress.
Today, The Breath Effect has grown to become a resource for people everywhere to access tools and techniques for better breathing, reduce stress and pain, building optimal health and wellness.

We don’t expect you to reverse lifelong habits overnight, so we deliver small, bite-sized pieces of information to help you transition safely and effectively.

In 2010, Emma Ferris had what she describes as her ‘handbrake moment’. It was a moment that would make her question everything she believed she knew as a clinical physiotherapist and breathing coach. And on a personal level, it nearly brought her to her knees. The discovery and learning that Emma undertook to get through some very tough times would lead her to discover what true wellness looks like and the critical link between effective breathing and health and happiness.
Emma thrived on stress. Good stress. But stress none the less and it took its toll. A moment of calamity became a moment of clarity. And now she is sharing that knowledge with everyone.
Today, Emma Ferris is the trailblazer behind The Breath Effect. She is a wellness architect, a breath geek and someone who is truly, madly, deeply committed to teaching the world to breathe effectively. Emma is the creator of Stress Reduction and Better Breathing Course, a public speaker, an acupuncturist, a Pilates instructor and a registered physiotherapist with over 15 years’ clinical experience.
Emma’s straightforward, yet empathetic approach has seen her help people around the globe realise the power of effective breathing. Through her clinical consultation working with top athletes around the world all the way through to teenagers, burnt-out parents to trauma sufferers, Emma uses her personal experiences, research, and knowledge to empower people to take control over stress and the impact it has on the body and mind.
